After service in the Navy during World War II, he joined the Cleveland law firm of Jones, Day, Cockley & Reavis, where he practiced estate administration, corporate law, and litigation. He was a partner until his retirement in 1973. He was active in the Cleveland Bar Association and the Cleveland Law Library Association. As a sportsman he was an active sailor, participating in races at the Mentor Harbor Yachting Club. He taught sunday school at The Temple-Tifereth Israel and was a volunteer counselor at Camp Wise in the 1930s.
